IGRAC - Vacancy: Junior/Medior Groundwater Specialist (2 positions)

Background

IGRAC (The International Groundwater Resource Assessment Centre) is the UNESCO global groundwater centre which also works under auspices of the World Meteorological Organization and has been supported by the Government of the Netherlands. Since 2003, IGRAC provides independent content and process support to assessment, monitoring, management and governance of internationally shared groundwaters. The centre promotes and facilitates worldwide exchange of groundwater knowledge and contributes to assessment of the global groundwater resources.   

Responsibilities 

The junior/medior groundwater specialist participates in the development and implementation of all IGRAC activities and projects, including the Global Groundwater Monitoring Network (GGMN) programme and the assessment of internationally shared aquifers within the ISARM programme(link is external). The specialist updates the content of the Global Groundwater Information System (GGIS), maintains the underlying database and online portal and oversees further GGIS software development. The duties also include organising, conducting and follow-up of meetings and workshops organised by IGRAC in various parts of the world. 

Education and skills 

Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in hydrogeology or related environmental science area is required.  The candidate has proven (advanced) experience in GIS (ArcGIS and QGIS). Additional ICT skills (geoserver, OGC, SQL) would be an asset. 

IGRAC is a small centre, working globally with many partners. Communication is key to our work and often as important as technical skills. Therefore, the successful candidate needs to have strong interpersonal skills in an international context. The candidate is able to build and maintain a strong professional network, can contribute to project acquisition and developing proposals and is able to organise and structure her/his work in a clear and efficient way.

Work Experience

Work experience will be considered as advantageous for the junior position. Candidates with a several years of work experience will be considered for the medior position.

Languages

Fluency in oral and written English is required as English is the working language at IGRAC. Knowledge of additional United Nations languages is desirable.
