Session HS8.2.9 Groundwater vulnerability assessment: from the concept to the application (Co-sponsored by IAH - International Association of Hydrogeologists) Convener: Jim LAMOREAUX
Co-Conveners: Manuela LASAGNA , Daniela DUCCI , Bartolomè ANDREO-NAVARRO
Groundwater vulnerability assessment provides a tool for highlighting areas where groundwater is more susceptible to contamination. These assessments can vary from qualitative indexing methods to quantitative process methods. Intrinsic vulnerability assesses the susceptibility of the receptor based on the natural properties of the land and subsurface; specific vulnerability also includes properties of the analyzed contaminant. The session aims to bring together scientists studying different aspects related to vulnerability: the debated concept of groundwater vulnerability, the different approaches for groundwater vulnerability assessment, the problems connected to the applicability and validation of the methods, the uses and limitations of intrinsic and specific vulnerability maps. We welcome papers dealing with both theoretical aspects and case studies in different hydrogeological contexts. This session is co-sponsored by IAH (International Association of Hydrogeologists)
